Paton Roden is the Coordinator of Second-year Experience at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). She earned her Master’s Degree focused in Higher Education- Student Affairs from the University of Virginia (UVA) and Bachelor's Degrees in both Business Management and Spanish from Berry College. She has a demonstrated history of working in Residence Life, Leadership Advising, Event Planning, and Program Development. Paton enjoys teaching a Global Initiatives course in her current role and conducts research on current and future trends in Student Affairs. She recently conducted an international assessment on how institutions respond to second-year student needs and presented findings at an international webinar. Paton leads within Student Affairs as the NASPA Alabama Communication Coordinator and the NASPA Orientation, Transition, & Retention Knowledge Community New Professionals Co-Representative. She also serves the Birmingham community as a Junior League member and Young Professionals Ambassador. She recently began PhD classes in Educational Studies and plans to continue to transform research into action in the Higher Education community.
