Whereas, he is a steward of the student affairs profession, affirming his passion and commitment by sharing his knowledge and supporting initiatives; and
Whereas, he currently serves as vice president for student affairs and dean of students at The College of Idaho inCaldwell, Idaho; and
Whereas, he previously served as dean of students, associate dean of students, and director of student activities, orientation, and student union operations at The College of Idaho, coordinator of programs at Boston University, and an elementary and junior high English teacher at the Japanese Ministries of Education and Foreign Affairs; and
Whereas, he earned a bachelor’s degree from Willamette University, a master’s degree in education from Boston University, and a doctorate from the University of Idaho; and
Whereas, his professional activities and affiliations include serving as regional director for NASPA Region V, member of the James E. Scott Academy Board, co-chair for the NASPA 2020 Western Regional Conference Programs, co-chair for the NASPA 2019 Western Regional Conference Senior Student Affairs Officer Institute, and member of the NASPA Foundation Board of Directors; and
Whereas, a sampling of his professional accolades include numerous publications and presentations, and the Fred Turner Award for Outstanding Service to the Profession from NASPA Region V; and
Whereas, his community service includes serving as a tutor for Learning Lab English Language and GED/Citizenship, a refugee resettlement volunteer with the Agency for New Americans & Idaho Office for Refugees, college liaison for the United Way, YMCA, and Caldwell Joint School District P-16 program, and session coordinator for Caldwell, Idaho Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program; and
Whereas, his breadth of experience is rooted in a deep commitment to the students he continues to serve as well as to the student affairs profession; and
Therefore, in recognition of the high regard in which he is held by his colleagues across the Association, the NASPA Foundation Board of Directors recognizes Paul R. Bennion as a Pillar of the Profession on this 30th day of March 2020.
