 Dr. Shadia Sachedina embraces the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of people and currently serves as the Assistant Vice President for Student Success & Dean of Students at the Fashion Institute of Technology (SUNY). In this role, she is responsible for the oversight of areas within Student Affairs that include Residential Life, Student Life, Health, Counseling, Athletics and Disability Services.  Additionally as the Dean of Students, she chairs the campus Care Team and oversees student conduct.


Prior to her role as an AVP, Shadia worked in various Student Affairs areas at a variety of institutions both public and private.  As a Muslim immigrant who came to the United States as an international student, Shadia has worked closely with multicultural student groups as well as religious affiliated groups to improve cross cultural relations within the campus environment.  She is a Gallup certified Strengths Coach and approaches her work through a “restorative” lens.  Her talents lie not only in her ability to always see the potential in people and situations but also in uncovering the best way to success.  


Shadia earned her doctorate at New York University in Higher Education Administration, an MS in Higher Education from Baruch College with the City University of New York and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Stony Brook University (SUNY).   She is a committed NASPA member and has served as the Chair of the NASPA AVP Steering Committee as well as a faculty member for the 2018 and 2019 NASPA AVP Institute.
