Thomas Dickson, Ed.D., is a first-generation student born and raised in the "dry heat" of Phoenix, Arizona. He serves as the University of California, Riverside's assistant vice provost for undergraduate education, where his student engagement team helps with academic advising and adviser support, as well as with connecting students to high-impact programming. He has oversight over the following entities: undergraduate research, national and prestigious scholarships, community engaged learning, service learning, academic internships, first-generation programs, and the Health Professions Advising Center. Additionally, Tom instructs courses for students in the UCR R'Course program.
He holds a B.A. in psychology from Arizona State University, an M.Ed. in counseling from Northern Arizona University, and an Ed.D. in higher education administration from Arizona State University. His academic interests are the topics of burnout and compassion fatigue, academic advising theory, and student sense of belonging.
