NASPA Responds to Fisher Supreme Court Ruling
Today, the US Supreme Court issued its much anticipated decision in the Fisher v. University of Texas case, remanding the case back to the Fifth Circuit for a more detailed assessment of UT Austin's admission policy and its use of race as a factor in the admissions decision. While midly encouraged by today's ruling, NASPA remains committed to expanding diversity on our nation's postsecondary institutions, and supporting students of all backgrounds their learning and development.
Safety is Paramount in Guns-on-Campus Conversations
NASPA supports thoughtful and common sense steps to reduce the threat of gun violence on our college and university campuses, and encourages federal and state policymakers to take action on gun control. A safe, supportive campus environment is a precursor to the learning and personal growth at the center of college and university life. As the nation continues to place increased importance on college-going, we believe it must do so in an environment that reduces the presence of guns on campus and increases campus safety.

They are outnumbered at most colleges and universities, their engagement in classrooms and enriching out-of-class experiences is alarmingly low, and their attrition rates are comparatively higher than those of their same-race female peers and students from the dominant racial group on campus. Such trends among Black, Latino, Native American, and particular Asian American male student populations have garnered the attention of student affairs administrators, college presidents, policymakers, and concerned others in recent years.
