On July 22, the United States Department of Education published a 'Dear Colleague Letter' summarizing the amendments to the Violence Against Women Act that pertain to institutions of higher education that took effect on July 1. Further, the letter contains important information about reporting timeframes for the law's new provisions on collecting and reporting campus crime statistics.
The release of this letter follows guidance published this spring by the United States Department of Education Office for Civil Rights (OCR) on Title IX Coordinators. In addition, OCR released a Questions and Answers document on Title IX and Sexual Violence as well as a Guidebook for Title IX coordinators that intend to help practitioners who fulfill these roles comply with recent federal regulatory developments.
Visit the Office for Civil Rights home page for additional resources and news updates on regulatory developments to protect the rights of citizens in educational settings.
