BACCHUS INITIATIVES OF NASPA GENERAL ASSEMBLY 2017

September 12, 2017

The BACCHUS Initiatives of NASPA is thrilled to host the 2017 General Assembly . This year’s conference will be hosted in the home city of the BACCHUS team: Denver, CO, also known as the Mile High City. Denver is situated 5280 feet above sea level, and is the highest major city in the United States. The BACCHUS Initiatives of NASPA team has compiled a list of suggestions, tips, and ideas to help make the most of your Colorado – and General Assembly – experience.

First and foremost - check out our Know Before You Go document. Learn more about ground transportation, packing recommendations and meal options. If this is your first time attending General Assembly, our Student Advisory Committee has compiled a list of Frequently Asked Questions.

You can interact with others in a different way by applying to host one of the coveted school exhibit tables. Spaces are limited, submit today!

Finally, on Saturday night at the closing banquet we will be recognizing outstanding students, advisors, peer education groups and peer education programs. Be sure to nominate award recipients by October 5, 2017!

Although there will be several meals will be provided at General Assembly (breakfast on Friday and Saturday, lunch and dinner on Saturday), the BACCHUS team has cultivated a list of their favorite restaurants near the conference. Colorado is known for Green Chile, but there are plenty of other great food options along the 16th Street Mall. Take the time to connect and network with other institutions while exploring downtown Denver. Make sure to visit the historic Union Station, the Flagship REI store or the original Chipotle. You can also check the program book or the conference app for even more recommendations on site.

Denver experiences over 300 days of sunshine a year, but temperatures can vary by 30 degrees between daytime and night time. The average high in November is 52 degrees, with an average low of 24 degrees. Attendees are encouraged to pack layers, as session rooms may also vary in temperature.

If you are traveling to Colorado from lower elevations, you may experience symptoms of altitude sickness. The most common experience with altitude sickness is a mild headache. Please ensure you are drinking lots of water, ibuprofen, Tylenol, or aspirin may help with headaches.

We hope this historic city helps set the tone for three days of amazing speakers, breakout sessions and peer education collaboration.  In addition to our conference offerings, what are you most excited to explore?
