Data Mining: Striking Gold or Striking Out?

Data on student outcomes can help focus institutional conversations and provide impetus for change. Yet many chief student affairs officers and other campus administrators find themselves adrift in a sea of data, searching for meaningful information. The reason is the lack of connection between the requested data and its usefulness to the organization. A transformation is needed: Use data to track student progress, and use the results to inform decision making.
