#NASPActs 2017 in San Antonio
With proposed Texas legislation (S.B. No. 6) to restrict bathroom use to the gender assigned at birth and other identity-based challenging legislation around the country, NASPA engaged in conversations about equity, inclusion, and social justice on the local, state, and national levels. Once again, #NASPActs was in full force during the 99th NASPA Annual Conference!
From an educational booth in the NASPA Exhibit Hall with sample letters to legislators, an Instagram photo challenge demonstrating that we celebrate diversity in all its forms, and a culminating vigil on Tuesday evening that shined a light on the action we need to take across this country, NASPActs provided opportunities for conference attednees to engage in efforts to encourage a socially just community in Texas and beyond. A track of sessions, both public policy and social justice focused, offered as well.
As always, the headquarter hotels and convention center provided All Gender Restrooms. We highlighted local businesses and organizations that are doing good work for inclusive and caring communities in San Antonio. NASPActs also provided continuing education about several community concerns including sexual violence prevention and guns on campus. In addition, NASPA celebrated positive legislation such as the bipartisan BRIDGE Act that supports undocumented students with relief from deportation and work authorization. We are committed to highlighting positive, foward movement, as well as recognizing how far we need to go.
