Twitter Chat Wrap up part 1

February 23, 2018

This fall the Parent and Family Relations KC hosted monthly twitter chats using the #ParentsAsPartners hashtag. Our goal was to highlight innovative programs that meet the needs of parent and family members on a particular campus. We focused the chats around these questions:

·       Can you tell us about your institution & the parent and family community?

·       Can you tell us about your approach to engaging this community?

·       Can you highlight the partners you collaborate with on campus?

·       How have you measured the success of these initiatives?

·       How do you financially support these initiatives?

On September 21, Rosann Santos, Director of Strategic Initiatives at John Jay College of Criminal Justice (CUNY) highlighted working for an HSI and supporting Spanish speaking parents. She tweeted about their multi-faceted approach starting with parent orientation. Interpretation services (through a certificate program on campus), a bi-semester newsletter, and bi-lingual facilitators at parent orientation. She also stressed the idea that at John Jay and many other campuses, family is more than parents. The data supports the benefits of embracing students in this community.

We hope to continue these chats in the spring and welcome interested parties to contact Dana Trimboli (Region II PFRKC) at [email protected]
