NASPA, the leading association for the advancement, health, and sustainability of the student affairs profession, through MENASA NASPA, encompassing 31 countries throughout the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia, invite you to submit programs for the 11th MENASA NASPA Annual Conference held at NYU Abu Dhabi. This conference provides a platform for academics, researchers, practitioners, and policy makers to discuss innovative models and trends in student affairs.

The 2017 Planning Committee seeks engaging and influential proposals that incorporate one or more of NASPA’s Guiding Principles of integrity, innovation, inclusion and inquiry. Proposals may be submitted by professionals with relevant experiences in the region, although collaborative presentations with presenters from different institutions is encouraged. Integrity - Committed to high moral principles exhibiting authentic, honest, just, and ethical behavior. Innovation - Continuously seeking improvement through new and creative approaches. Inclusion - Seeking ways to ensure access, voice, acknowledgement, opportunity, and participation at all levels. Inquiry - Supporting research and scholarship to add to the knowledge base of the profession and ensure that data informs practice.

Call for Programs

The 2017 Planning Committee seeks engaging and influential proposals that incorporate NASPA Guiding Principles of integrity, innovation, inclusion and inquiry. 

Submission Criteria

Proposals will be evaluated by several program reviewers using the following four (4) standards:

  1. Significant and creative contributions to student affairs profession throughout the MENASA region.
  2. Engaging program format that involves the audience and stimulates discussion.
  3. Conceptually strong foundation, well-written, with clearly stated outcomes and appropriately documented research and/or experience.
  4. Qualified presenters with expertise in the subject matter.

Sessions will take the following formats:

  1. Workshop - A workshop consists of a professional(s) sharing a best practice or other opportunity for learning with their colleagues. These general sessions are 50 minutes in length.
  2. Panel - These sessions should feature professionals with expertise in a particular functional area of student affairs, sharing critical learnings from their experience and implications for colleagues. These sessions are 50 minutes in length.
  3. Think Tank - A Think Tank is a group of professionals gathered to provide insight, feedback, and advice on a particular area of focus. Think Tank convenors should present a topic or issue of challenge that they wish to invite others to consider with them. The convenor will facilitate this brainstorm/problem-solving session in the hopes of identifying solutions to common challenges in student affairs across the MENASA region. These sessions are 75 minutes in length.

Pre-Conference Programs & Events

The 2017 MENASA NASPA is please to offer two pre-conference opportunities to attendees. 

  • We are pleased to welcome ACUHO-I to this year's conference.  Join the Association of College and University Housing Officers – International (ACUHO-I) for a pre-conference session on 17 April. The ACUHO-I pre-conference workshop is free and will provide attendees with the opportunity to connect with colleagues and explore ways in which student housing and residence life programs can support the ever-changing needs and interests of students and positively the overall student experience.
  • The official MENASA NASPA pre-conference workshop will take place on Tuesday, 18 April and is a unique one-day learning opportunity for new and continuing professionals.  Attendees will participate in skill-based and interactive sessions focused on professional competencies in critical areas of higher education such as student learning and development, leadership, technology, and student advising.

ACUHO - I Pre-Conference Workshop

Monday, April 17th • 02.00 PM – 05.00 PM

Open to all conference attendees, this no cost event will allow conference attendees to connect with colleagues from around the region for discussion and exploration. Participants will get advice from thought leaders in the profession who are at the forefront of housing and residence life best and next practices, and learn about valuable resources such as the ACUHO-I Knowledge Domains and online library that are available to help support student affairs professionals. MENASA Pre-Conference Workshop

Tuesday, April 18th • 08.30 AM – 05.00 PM

Open to all conference attendees for an additional feed. Participants will participate in innovative and interaction sessions. Participants will have the opportunity to network with peers and colleagues in the region and discuss issues and ideas of shared interest. This fun filled day will be an enriching opportunity to further develop foundational skills for working with students in a higher education setting while meeting new people to support you in your career.
