The Fred Turner Award is NASPA’s highest career honor, recognizing a lifetime commitment to membership, engagement, and leadership within the association. The award celebrates a NASPA member who has served in multiple leadership roles and demonstrated sustained involvement at the regional, national, or international level across various Constituent Groups and/or volunteer opportunities. Recipients champion a culture of engagement with NASPA amongst their colleagues and peers, ensuring that the association is foundational to professional development and community in the field. Each recipient has brought honor and dignity to the student affairs profession and to NASPA.
Fred Turner was a past Chair of the NASPA Board of Directors (1958-1959) and former Chief Student Affairs Officer at the University of Illinois.
The 2027 Fred Turner Award for Outstanding Service to NASPA is accepting nominations from July 29, 2026 through October 1, 2026.
