Trainings and Consulting
The BACCHUS Initiatives offers staff facilitated trainings on peer education skills and a variety of health and safety topics for your campus.
CPE Training is an effective strategy for building a well-educated and sustainable peer education group. CPE Training helps peer educators develop leadership skills to be able to successfully create and implement campus programs. The training includes nine modules, covering the role of peer education, how change and high-risk behaviors intersect, listening skills, response and referral skills, how to take action and intervene, recognizing the role of diversity and inclusivity, programming and presentation skills, self-care, and group dynamics. This workshop introduces the concepts of pro-social behavior and bystander intervention to help students determine when to intervene and ways to do so. Students are more likely take action in the future when they understand the “why” and practice intervention techniques in a safe space with a qualified trainer. This interactive training is designed for the general student population as well as student leaders and can be adapted to specific audiences. The concepts and skills from the training are applicable to a range of situations: alcohol poisoning, impaired driving prevention, hazing, eating disorders, and more. This training is adapted from the STEP UP! Bystander Intervention Training for student athletes, a joint project initiative developed by the University of Arizona, NCAA, The BACCHUS Initiatives of NASPA, and APPLE Conferences.
NASPA Staff members have a number of tobacco control trainings, including both half- and full-day to address campus policy development, cessation assistance, and provide other technical support for campuses and campus administrators. This training provides a brief screening tool and incorporates motivational interviewing techniques to assist student life staff in having intentional conversations with students. Participants will leave with tools for implementing SBI and resources for assisting students to consider a behavior change.
