Supporting the Profession Equity, Inclusion and Social Justice Assessment, Evaluation, and Research Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice Division Womxn in Student Affairs AVP or "Number Two" Faculty Mid-Level Senior Level VP for Student Affairs
January 26, 2026

Application Submission Deadline: April 17, 2026

NASPA–Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education invites applicants for the position of Managing Editor of the Journal of Women and Gender in Higher Education (JWG). The official term is for three years beginning in March 2027.

Scope of JWG

JWG is published four times a year in both print and electronic formats. The journal publishes scholarship that centers gender-based experiences of students, faculty, and staff while examining oppression, including but not limited to patriarchy, sexism, trans* oppression, and cisnormativity as they intersect with other systems of domination. JWG includes manuscripts that not only focus on a gender-based group but also critically interrogate how gender has been used as a construct to limit opportunities and shape outcomes and experiences. The journal publishes high-quality, rigorous scholarship that can transform daily practice, research, and the field of higher education. JWG is a publication of NASPA, the leading voice of student affairs, in collaboration with Taylor and Francis.

Qualification and Requirements

The Managing Editor position is a significant professional service commitment requiring strong organizational skills, editorial judgment, and experience with academic publishing workflows. The ideal candidate will demonstrate familiarity with gender- and equity-focused scholarship in higher education; be able to manage multiple manuscripts simultaneously; and support the editorial team in maintaining an efficient, transparent, and timely publication process.

Applicants should have experience with peer review systems, editorial correspondence, and manuscript tracking; demonstrate strong written communication skills; and be able to coordinate effectively with editors, reviewers, authors, and publishing staff. The Managing Editor is expected to support the integrity of the review process, ensure adherence to journal policies and deadlines, and contribute to the overall functioning and sustainability of the journal. Membership in NASPA is preferred.

  • Train new Editorial Board and NPGS Board members on the peer review process.
  • Complete administrative onboarding tasks for new board members, including creating ScholarOne accounts, granting appropriate system access, and updating website content to reflect new appointments.
  • Support the Co-Editors-in-Chief in organizing and coordinating JWG-sponsored sessions and meetings at the NASPA Annual Conference.
  • Maintain accurate records of manuscript status, reviewer activity, and editorial decisions to support transparency and reporting.
