Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice Division

Equity, Inclusion and Social Justice Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice Division

The Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice Division works to raise the visibility of issues related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice within the Association and the student affairs profession. The Division provides practical strategies and assists with professional development opportunities that encourage NASPA members’ commitment to and advancement of those principles. The Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice Division includes representatives from each of NASPA’s regions as well as a representative from each of NASPA’s identity-based knowledge communities and other constituent groups. Together, these representatives work closely with NASPA staff to provide timely, comprehensive expertise to members on social justice and equity issues occurring at the national, state and local levels.

Message from the Division Chair

Welcome to the NASPA Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice Division web page! College and university campuses across the country are grappling with upheavals in local and national politics — and assessing the implications for race relations and a myriad of other social justice issues. In this environment, our commitment to equity and inclusion is more critical than ever at NASPA, on our campuses, and around the world. We invite all NASPA members to work with the Division to evaluate and support the organization’s inclusion of those with diverse perspectives and backgrounds. Division members are drawn from NASPA’s Knowledge Communities and other interested constituent groups. To get involved, please contact the leadership of your Knowledge Community. If you would like to inform us of equity and inclusion efforts that you or others are advancing as NASPA members, please contact me at [email protected].

EISJ Commitment Statement

Approved by the NASPA Board of Directors, Winter Board Meeting 2016

NASPA affirms the importance and centrality of the values of equity, inclusion, and social justice to student affairs professionals, both in their daily lives and in their work on behalf of and with students and other constituents. NASPA believes that equity, inclusion, and social justice require continual pursuits to ensure that members from all identities, backgrounds, abilities, and belief systems have access, voice, acknowledgement, and opportunities to participate at all levels within the Association and the profession. Additionally, NASPA strives to ensure that our membership, leadership, scholarship, and programming are reflective of these values, and through our standards of professional practice we hold our members and the Association accountable to these principles in our work on behalf of the profession.
