About

The Community Colleges Institute is a pre-conference workshop that occurs every year the day and a half prior to the annual conference. The Institute allows staff and faculty to learn from and engage with one another on a variety of critical issues affecting student affairs professionals in the community college setting.

This pre-conference institute is a fantastic space for community college professionals to come together and rethink the ways in which they organize programs of study, methods of instruction, and student support services. With the continued focused on student success and completion, community colleges are uniquely positioned to lead the way for student success. The Institute is offered in conjuction with the NASPA Western Regional Conference, which allows you to build your professional network with others at community colleges in regions V and VI.      

Institute Goals and Learning Objectives

Participants who attend the Community College Professionals Institute will be able to:

  • Contextualize the community college experience in the history of higher education;

  • Articulate emerging community college issues and promising practices;

  • Develop multicultural competence and envision ways services can be enhanced or expanded to meet the needs of the diverse community college population;

  • Utilize the NASPA Community Colleges Division to serve as a resource to support student affairs work and/or development at community colleges.

Registration Policies

Cancellation Policy: 
The cancellation deadline is October 14, 2019. All requests for cancellations must be in writing and sent to Carmen Gold-Johnson at [email protected] A $50 cancellation fee will be deducted from your refund. No refunds will be provided after October 14, 2019. This program may be canceled or postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. In this case, fees will be refunded; however, NASPA will not be responsible for additional costs, charges, or expenses, including cancellation/change charges assessed by airlines, hotels, and/or travel agencies. NASPA is not responsible for weather or travel related problems and will not reimburse registration fees for these issues.

Substitution Policy:
Substitutions will be allowed until October 14, 2019, and are only allowed between registrants with the same membership type (member to member, non-member to non-member) and the same registration type (professional to professional, student to student).
