Dialogue and Deliberation Forum Series: Free Speech and the Inclusive Campus

Workshop

This free series offers an opportunity for attendees to participate in democratic deliberation, an approach to engaging in conversation where participants may have passionately different viewpoints or perspectives, using NASPA’s issue guide created in partnership with the Kettering Foundation, Free Speech and the Inclusive Campus: How do we Foster the Campus Community we Want?

Join colleagues in fostering change through conversation in one or more of eight upcoming forum dates all from 3:00pm-5:00pm EST:

Tuesdays: August 18 (Participant Capacity Reached), August 25, September 1, September 8

Thursdays: August 20, August 27, September 3, September 10

Please note that while participants may register for more than one forum, each forum will follow a similar structure using the same issue guide. Forums are highly participatory, so attendees are expected and encouraged to arrive on time and contribute throughout.

Issue Guides on Deliberative Dialogue

NASPA’s Project Page "Issue Guides for Deliberative Dialogue" includes our first issue guide, Free Speech and the Inclusive Campus: How Do We Foster The Campus Community We Want?" along with resources to train moderators on how to conduct a forum so that every sector across the higher education may participate. NASPA’s issue guide can be used for dialogue between students and practitioners, and cross-functionally across different departments and levels of leadership as well. Institutions that conduct a forum with the guide should make sure to fill out a program evaluation to ensure proper assessment of the tool and to inform future research. Please visit the project page linked above for more!

Forum Evaluations

Were you a participant or a moderator for a forum using a NASPA issue guide? please fill out a questionnaire below to help us evaluate how the guides are being used and identify topics for future issue guides!

The participant evaluation can be used to assess NASPA Free Speech and Fraternity and Sorority Life issue guides, along with any other National Issues Forum guide relevant to campus forums. The moderator evaluation is only applicable to Free Speech and Fraternity and Sorority Life.
